Part I First Draft by MADELINE S. MANNING madeline.manning@purchase.edu INT. BEDROOM – NIGHT JOHN sits upright in bed staring straight into camera. I’ve got an iron sanity and it’s all mine and it never shakes and it’s never cracked. INT. ROOM – NIGHT Pan down a white wall to a LIGHT SWITCH. An anonymous FINGER flips the switch: OFF. Until tonight. INT. BEDROOM – NIGHT JOHN’s eyes roll back in his head and he falls backwards into: CUT TO: EXT. FIELD – DAY He falls into the grass of a field, blood flooding his mouth and crawling out of his teeth when he speaks. Tonight I am dead. CUT TO BLACK: What of it. ROLL OPENING CREDIT SEQUENCE. EXT. ALLEYWAY – DAY JOHN stands staring at something SCREEN LEFT. JOHN Who are you. Across from him is SAMI. I’m the rocks in my own eyes and I’ve spent years hoping to live and hoping to die. She brings a cigarette up to her mouth and lights it. And then she lights a second one. She holds the second one up to JOHN. Danger? I died by the railroad tracks. CUT TO: EXT. RAILROAD TRACKS – DAY SAMI’s body, bloody and twisted lies wrecked by the railroad tracks. By the railroad tracks. By the railroad tracks. EXT. ALLEYWAY – DAY SAMI looks down. Sorry I’m a bit of a broken record by this point. She looks up, looking afraid and slightly desperate. |
